RoboRacer is Ambimat’s autonomous-robotics property: a 1:10-scale autonomous racing vehicle built to the RoboRacer / F1TENTH specification, integrated and validated by Ambimat Electronics before it ships.
The platform exists to remove a specific bottleneck. Autonomous systems — state estimation, mapping, planning, control — are best learned and researched on real hardware, but real hardware absorbs the time that was meant to go into the work. A course that starts with twelve teams building twelve vehicles ends with twelve different vehicles, several of which do not run.
An assembled vehicle rather than a parts list: compute, perception, actuation and power integrated on a Traxxas four-wheel-drive chassis and tested as one system.
An NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Super carries the stack, a Hokuyo 2D LiDAR provides the scan, and a VESC 6 MkIV drives the motor under field-oriented control.
Power distribution runs through the Ambimat AE170 board — the part of the vehicle the group designs and manufactures itself, rather than sourcing.
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, NVIDIA JetPack and ROS 2, with an optional setup and technical-support service so the vehicle arrives ready to drive.
Four audiences use the same hardware for different ends. Universities teach autonomy at cohort scale without the semester disappearing into assembly. Competition teams race in RoboRacer and F1TENTH events. Research laboratories get a platform reproducible enough that a result can be compared against somebody else’s. Industry teams use it for skills training and applied research where a full-size vehicle is impractical.
What they share is the need for identical, working vehicles on day one — which is an integration and manufacturing problem rather than a robotics one.
Ambimat has been designing and manufacturing embedded electronics since 1982. RoboRacer draws on that directly: the power board is Ambimat’s own design, the wiring and mechanical integration are done in-house, and every kit is brought up and driven before it leaves. The same hardware design and testing discipline used for customer programmes is what makes a fleet of teaching vehicles behave identically.
