In 2017 Ambimat developed a fingerprint-based security product for CEEL. The work covered hardware and firmware, and the device combined a biometric security sensor with a GSM chipset and a wireless link. This page is a record of that project.
The project
CEEL appointed Ambimat to design its security product. Ambimat’s scope covered both the hardware and the firmware, and the device brought together three things that do not normally sit on the same board: a biometric security sensor, a GSM chipset for remote reporting, and a wireless technology. CEEL’s own account of the engagement appears among the client testimonials on the Ambimat home page.
What fingerprint-based actuation does
Fingerprint-based actuation replaces a password or passcode with the presence of an enrolled finger. Instead of authorising an action by something the holder knows, the device authorises it by something the holder is, and it can record who authorised each action rather than only that an action occurred.
The sensors Ambimat has worked with in this class can store anywhere from 49 to 250 fingerprints, and support fingerprint-based data logging as well as simple accept or reject actuation.
Where this class of device is applied
The application areas this work was aimed at were containers whose contents matter more than the container: refrigerators holding high-value drugs, cases and briefcases carrying valuables, and boxes holding high-value documents, in that last case alongside impact sensors so that tampering as well as opening is recorded. In each of them the requirement is the same — prove that the person opening it was authorised to, and keep the record.
What this project shows today
The CEEL device was developed in 2017 and this page describes that project as it was; it is not a current Ambimat catalogue product and no claim is made here about its present commercial status. What the project demonstrates is Ambimat’s ability to take a security product from specification through hardware and firmware to a working device, integrating biometrics with cellular and wireless connectivity on one design.
