EMVCo Level 1 contactless reader design
Ambimat designs contactless reader hardware to the EMVCo Level 1 contactless protocol specification, as a paid engineering service for your product. We have built contactless reader hardware in India since 1982, and the same analogue front-end, antenna and firmware work that goes into our own reader modules is available as design-to-spec engineering for OEMs.
Contactless payment approval is a per-product, per-deployment certification exercise. A compliance mark belongs to a specific product in a specific revision, tested at a specific time. Ambimat is not a test laboratory and issues no compliance mark. What we provide is the hardware engineering that a Level 1 approval attempt requires.
Who this is for
- OEMs adding contactless acceptance to a terminal, kiosk, validator or access device.
- Product teams carrying a reference design through to production hardware.
- Fare-collection and access-control integrators who need reader hardware engineered to the Level 1 contactless protocol rather than bought off a catalogue.
What the engagement covers
- Analogue front-end and RF design, antenna design and tuning, impedance matching.
- Dynamic power control and field performance across the operating volume.
- Reader firmware for the contactless interface, and host-side integration.
- Design-to-spec implementation against the EMVCo Level 1 contactless protocol specification.
- Design iterations in support of your own Level 1 approval attempt, including pre-test debugging.
- Hardware bring-up, EMS handoff and production test support.
What this service does not cover
- EMV Level 2 kernel development, licensing or integration.
- EMV Level 3 and acquirer-end integration.
- Certification, testing-laboratory or scheme-approval services.
- Payment-application certification.
- Any representation that a delivered design is “EMVCo compliant” or approved. Approval is the product owner’s exercise, against a named specification version, at a named laboratory.
How an engagement runs
A scoping call, then a written scope naming the specification version, the target form factor and the approval route you intend to take. Engineering runs in milestones against that scope. You own the design outputs.
